40 Years of Showing Up for Rhode Island

An independent insurance agency built on training, trust, and four decades of knowing our clients by name.

Born in Rhode Island. Still Here.

Podmaska Insurance Agency has been serving Rhode Island homeowners, families, and business owners since the early 1980s. That's over 40 years of renewals, claims calls, kitchen-table conversations, and clients who come back — and send their kids. We're not a call center. We're not a national brand with a local phone number. We're a Providence-based, independently owned agency that has spent four decades learning exactly what Rhode Island families and businesses need from an insurance partner.

Our reach covers all of Rhode Island — from Providence and Warwick to Cranston, East Providence, and the coastal communities that make this state worth protecting.

Industry Training. Neighborhood Commitment.

Stephen Podmaska spent more than a decade at Prudential before going independent — learning the trade from the inside at one of the largest insurance organizations in the country, with training that spanned both property and casualty lines and life insurance. That foundation is rare for an agency our size, and it shows in how we serve clients.

When Stephen left to build something of his own, he brought that depth with him and built a team around the same standard: know the products, know the client, and never stop earning the relationship. The result is an agency where the person answering your question actually understands your policy — not just the system it's filed in.

What It Means to Be an Independent Agent

When you work with a captive agent, you get one carrier's products and one carrier's pricing. When you work with us, you get access to more than 20 top-rated carriers — including Travelers, Nationwide, Allstate, Progressive, Safeco, and Beacon Mutual — and an agent whose job is to find the right fit for you, not to move a quota.

Independence means we shop the market on your behalf. It means we can move your coverage when a carrier's rates shift. And it means our loyalty is to you — not to a home office.

RamseyTrusted: A Third-Party Standard We're Proud to Meet

The RamseyTrusted certification isn't self-reported. Dave Ramsey's organization independently vets the agents it endorses and holds them to specific standards around fee transparency, client communication, and service quality. It's a signal that a third party has reviewed how we operate — and confirmed we meet a bar that most agencies aren't held to.

For clients who found us on Google and are doing their homework before calling, the RamseyTrusted badge is worth understanding: it means someone other than us has vouched for the way we work.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Agency

  • How long has Podmaska Insurance Agency been in business?

We've been serving Rhode Island since the early 1980s — over 40 years of continuous operation as an independently owned agency based in Providence.

  • What does it mean that you're a RamseyTrusted agent?

RamseyTrusted is an endorsement program run by Dave Ramsey's organization. Agents are independently vetted before receiving the designation, and held to standards around fee transparency and client-first service. It's a third-party verification of how we operate — not a self-reported credential.

  • Why should I choose an independent agent over a direct carrier?

An independent agent works with multiple carriers and shops coverage on your behalf. We have access to more than 20 top-rated carriers, which means we can compare options and find the right fit for your situation — rather than being limited to one company's products and pricing.

  • Do you offer life insurance in addition to property and casualty?

Yes — and it's a genuine differentiator for us. We have a dedicated life insurance and annuities specialist on staff, which is uncommon for an independent P&C agency. We can handle term life, whole life, final expense coverage, and annuities without referring you elsewhere.

  • What areas of Rhode Island do you serve?

We're based in Providence and serve clients across all of Rhode Island — including Warwick, Cranston, East Providence, and communities throughout Providence, Kent, and Washington Counties. Rhode Island is 32 miles wide, and we treat the whole state as our backyard.

  • How do I get started?

You can request a quote online, call us at 401-272-5444, or send us an email. We'll take it from there and get back to you quickly.

Ready to Work With an Agency That Knows Rhode Island?

Forty years of relationships don't happen by accident. They happen because we answer the phone, explain the policy, and show up at renewal with options — not just a bill. If you're ready to work with an agency that will still be here in another 40 years, we'd like to earn your business.
